Well this makes me heated.
This problem has nothing to do w/ sex-specific treatment and everything to do with lazy incompetent sexist doctors caring more about the gender of their patient than the sex.
Women’s/female’s heart attack symptoms differ widely from men/males, for example. The gender of the person has no bearing on the symptoms; only their sex does. And knowing (and caring!) about that difference is a matter of life and death.
Sexist doctors who care about sexist stereotypes (based on gender) have nothing to do with people (“cis” or not) wanting adequate treatment. (Because God Forbid you want proper informed treatment for your body, amiright?)
And what’s the message of this thing up there? “Silly woman for wanting an actual diagnosis”? “Guess she got what she deserved–being called fat–for wanting doctors to do their goddamn jobs”? “She really walked into that one by wanting doctors to recognize her sex and properly treat her at the same time”?
Why are the doctors not on blast? Why is it implied this woman did something wrong? Where’s her male counterpart being slyly insulted and denigrated in the same way?
Like, yeah, oh haha. It’s a funny joke about “cis ppl” the futility of women’s position in society.
The medical community’s refusal to study anything to do w/ female anatomy is a disgrace. Where are the nerves in the clitoris? The cervix? What does the clitoris even look like? How do these nerves relate to sexual and overall function of the body? How many glands are in/around the vagina? How should labia be operated on? What causes fibroids? Endometriosis? Hormonal fluctuations? What medicines are safe during pregnancy? What role does the uterus play in a person’s overall health? Why do doctors continue to perform episiotomies when research shows they’re not just useless, they’re harmful? Guess what: THEY DON’T KNOW EITHER.
If this little snippet was meant to criticize bad doctors, it did a piss-poor job. Also, implying the knowledge of different anatomies only affects ‘cis’ people is blatantly false. It’s not like care improves if doctors don’t know one’s sex. In fact, if there are surgeries or different hormones at play, doctors should be more informed, not less!
Punching down at people mistreated by the medical industry is not a joking matter. It’s a problem. People (all people) deserve informed care that will actually help them.
